Interpreter-mediated investigative interviews with minors
Abstract - When information is elicited from children in a criminal context, both their ability and willingness to disclose is at stake. In law, the communicative vulnerability of children is manifest in forensic protocols for interviewing children.
Adults’ perceptions of children’s referentially ambiguous responses.
From the University of Southern California Law, Thomas D. Lyon.
The present study examined adults’ interpretations of child witnesses’ referentially ambiguous “yes” and “no” responses to “Do You Know/Remember if/whether” questions. Participants were presented with transcripts from child sexual abuse cases modified based on question format and child response type in a between subjects design.
The Relationship between Investigative Interview Quality, Trial Process, and Outcome in Cases of Child Sexual Abuse
From Deakin University, Anne Sophie Pichler
Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctors of Philosophy. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is one of the most difficult crimes to prosecute and it suffers from high attrition rates. The low rate of successful prosecution may partially be due to the type of evidence that is available in these cases; there are rarely any eyewitnesses or corroborating evidence (such as physical injuries). As a result, the complainant’s evidence is typically central to these cases.
