On Monday, cops received a call about a dead body that 2 alligators were eating in a canal on the edge of Everglades.
When the cops arrived at the spot, they found 2 alligators eating a dead body. The dead individual was not identified. It is also not clear if the corpse was of a male or female.
Capt. Dale Engle said, “The body has been in the water for a while”.
The divers attempted to scare the alligators, but they needed help. With the assistance of trappers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife conversations commission, which help in trapping alligators, the dive team took the dead body out of the water.
The cops stood by armed with AR-15s “to make sure that the divers are safe once they’re in the water.”
Police is trying to identify the person. Sgt. Pablo Castaneda said, “We want to identify who the victim is and possibly figure out what happened to them, how they ended up here. Could it be homicide? Could it be suicide? Could it have been natural, a fisherman? We don’t know”.
It is shown by the report that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the reason of the death.
According to Castaneda, he had never seen alligators eating human dead body.
It was not clear whether the alligators killed the individual or it was a murder case.
Spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Carol Lyn Parrish said, “If we determine that an alligator was the cause, then we’ll go back and recover it”.
The Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission told, “Alligators are opportunistic feeders and they eat prey species that are abundant and easily accessible. Juvenile alligators eat primarily insects, amphibians, small fish, and other invertebrates. Adult alligators eat rough fish, snakes, turtles, small mammals, and birds.”
